rice and dieting

Good health is all about the right balance of food and exercise. When it comes to food, carrying a sense of eating nutritional food that means recognizing quality of food over quantity is essential for reaching your fitness goals. I consider myself a wise foodie. I love rice and eat it too but not to add on unnecessary calories.

A portion of five egg whites and a medium bowl of rice with veggies is what follows my workout. I don’t think one needs to give up this wholesome, easily digestible grain if they are aiming at weight loss. Rice is easily digestible and in limited or monitored quantities, pretty permissible in a lean diet. Brown and red rice are more sought after and preferred over the white one. The former ones are more fibrous, and replete with nutritional density. They are complete in structure too. So, coming to the point, let us peek at the right way to include rice in one’s diet and yet keep losing weight.

1. Eat a small and limited portion. This is yes a starchy food so overeating will surely hinder with your weight loss goals.

2. Refrain from frying your rice as it may give you extra calories and may also add to fat values. This again means not so healthy eating.

3. Always strain the starch while you steam your rice. No pressure cooking please, it will store the extra starch and calories. Flush them out.

4. Avoid this grain altogether in case you are over stressed. In anxiety, as one eats more, you might tend to eat a much bigger portion than your stipulated one.

5. Choose brown or red rice as much as possible. It is denser than white rice. They also have fibre and thus take a longer time to be digested. They would keep you feeling full for quite a while.

6. Top your rice up with a generous amount of vegetables. This will add appropriate vitamin, mineral and fiber content.

7. Last but not the least; don’t forget to exercise regularly. Whatever you eat, your weight loss cannot be complete without exercising.

Balance is the key. Just be smart and if you love rice, go on to enjoy its flavour. Satiate your taste buds and remain fit at the same time.
