Facial Yoga

One of the first signs of aging that start becoming apparent in men and women are the changes that start occuring in their facial skin. While aging is a natural process and there is nothing that you can do to avoid it, you can surely prevent your skin from showing any signs of aging by practicing facial yoga. In fact, a study published in JAMA Dermatology revealed that practicing “facial yoga” everyday improves facial fullness and results in firmer skin.  Let’s look at how facial yoga works and how it can help you reduce the signs of aging.

How Facial Yoga Works?

Facial yoga works on the lower, middle and upper layers of epidermis that leads to an increase in blood circulation. This in turn enables more oxygen into the skin, making it healthier, more youthful and glowing. Facial yoga also increases the production of collagen and elastin that make the skin look firmer and plumper.

Facial Yoga Exercises that Experts Recommend

The eye and brow, jawline and neck, and cheeks are the three main areas that have the most visible signs of aging. Practicing facial yoga for these specific areas could reduce wrinkles and improve the overall skin tone. Here are the exercises that experts recommend to defy the signs of aging :

  1. Open eyes as wide as you can, while ensuring that cheeks are flat and down. Do not raise eyebrows or draw them together. Practice this for a couple of minutes to reduce eye bags, firm up the sagging skin and smoothen wrinkles around eyes.
  2. Move your neck backwards and stretch chin towards ceiling. Make a gulping motion with mouth to bring lower lip over the top. Repeat the exercise to firm up the neck and strengthen its interior muscles.
  3. Puff cheeks out with air for as long as you can. Put the weight of fingers on the top of the cheeks when tightening and releasing cheek muscles. This will result in rounder and fuller cheeks.

Last Few Words

Like any other part of the body, the skin also changes with age. The loss of elasticity and volume results in wrinkles and fine lines. Practice face yoga for at least 20 minutes every day to get optimal results. Most individuals start seeing results after two weeks. It will take anywhere between two to four months to reduce fine lines and achieve a healthier skin.
